Richard Leslie Lewis
painting
I work in oils, painting landscapes, seascapes and portraits shaped by light, atmosphere, and qualities of paint. Observation gives way to looser, expressive passages, where texture, movement and colour carry equal weight to detail. My work is rooted in places — woodland, coast, and surroundings — chosen for mood rather than grandeur. I’m drawn to moments that feel fleeting or half-remembered, allowing paint to suggest presence and emotion rather than describe literally. After many years working in television and radio, I returned to painting with a renewed focus on instinct and craft. Each painting is intended to be lived with.
